Hospice
Hospice is a special kind of care that provides sensitive support for people in the final phase of a terminal illness. Residents are offered palliative care rather than curative treatment, enabling them to maintain an alert, pain-free life and manage other symptoms to spend their last days in dignity.
Hospice treats the person, not just the disease and emphasizes quality of life rather than length of life. Hospice neither hastens nor postpones death; it affirms life and regards dying as a normal process. The interdisciplinary hospice team is made up of professionals who address the medical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs of both resident and loved ones.
Hospice offers help and support 24-hours a day, seven days a week, and is available to both residents and their loved ones.
Under the direction of a physician, hospice care uses sophisticated methods of pain and symptom control that enable the patient to live as fully and comfortably as possible.
Hospice takes into consideration the feelings of the entire family along with those of the resident. Loved ones are included in the decision making process and provided support throughout this difficult time. Bereavement counseling is provided to the family after the death of a loved one.
